McDonald's announced recently that from November 1st, McDonald's China will pilot two ways to reduce pipes in 10 restaurants in Beijing. Among them, three restaurants implement the first plan: a new "no-straw cup cover"; the remaining seven restaurants implement the second plan: do not actively provide straws.
Also this year, Starbucks announced in July that plastic pipettes would be banned in all its stores around the world by 2020 and that recyclable non-pipette caps and alternative materials such as paper or degradable plastics would be provided.
Starbucks launched biodegradable paper pipettes in 54 stores in London and Manchester in May; KFC in Singapore stopped using plastic pipettes; and McDonald's in Britain, Ireland and India will use paper pipettes instead of plastic pipettes.
Pipettes are important products in both developed and developing countries. In recent years, the food service packaging industry has developed rapidly. While bringing convenience to people's lives, more and more discarded plastic pipes and similar products begin to burden the environment. Paper pipes gradually show their advantages because of their recyclability.
Plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental problems in the world. According to UNEP statistics, 8 million tons of plastic waste enter the ocean every year. If this trend cannot be changed, the total weight of plastic waste in the ocean is expected to exceed that of fish by 2050.
Among plastic waste, plastic pipette is one of the most common garbage. The world consumes a large number of plastic pipettes every day. Because of its small size and low recycling value, it is almost never recycled.
